Retail rice prices to be reduced

Ministry of Internal Trade says that the price of rice will be reduced from tomorrow. Imported Samba Rs. 60,  Nadu Rs. 55, and white rice 50 per KG sold in Sathosa outlets. 

Sri Lanka will also import 50,000 metric tons of rice from Bangladesh to ensure food security and control the escalating price of Sri Lankan’s staple food.

President Rajapakse visits Lumbini

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is in Nepal to attend the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit in Kathmandu, today paid homage at the Mayadevi Temple at Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

President Rajapaksa and his delegation arrived in Lumbini this morning by a helicopter which landed at a helipad near the Lumbini bus park, the Himalayan Times reported.

Shots fired at UNP office in Harispattuwa

Gunshots have been fired at the United National Party (UNP) office of Kandy District MP Mohamed Hashim Abdul Haleem, located in the Mawilmadama area in Harispattuwa.

The Police Spokesman’s Office said that the Katugastota Police Station has received a complaint stating that the shooting took place last night and that 3 bullet holes can be seen at office.

No casualties have been reported from the shooting while no suspects have been arrested, police said.

Shiral Lakthilaka MP today slammed both the United National Party and the Government of ignoring the shooting incident occurred where a former UNP Pradeshiya Sabha member sustained life threatening injuries in Beruwala on 22 November.

Lakthilaka while addressing a press conference held in Colombo expressed that the Government and President Mahinda Rajapaksa should take the full responsibility of the incident, and he is surprised to see that the UNP also have ignored the incident.
